Empowering the Next Generation of Changemakers Through Film.

The Sundar Prize Film Festival is proud to launch its Youth Jury Program, a dynamic initiative that puts the power of decision-making directly into the hands of young people. This program is designed to engage youth 24 and under in the art of film criticism, storytelling, and cultural dialogue — giving them the tools to shape the future of cinema.

How It Works

Youth jurors will learn how to watch, review, and rate films, while gaining hands-on experience in the world of film festivals. Guided by festival mentors, they will evaluate a selection of powerful stories and ultimately decide the winner of the prestigious Best Youth Film Award.

Best Youth Film Award

This category celebrates the creativity and vision of filmmakers 24 years of age or younger. Films of any length, released after May 1, 2024, are eligible.

  • Cash Prize: $500 CAD
  • Plus exclusive recognition and opportunities (see below).

Awards and Recognition

The winning filmmaker will receive:

  • Official Winner’s Laurel (with Laurels also awarded to finalists and official selections)
  • Digital Certificate of Achievement
  • Letter of Congratulations
  • An eco-friendly trophy, crafted in BC and mailed or presented in person
  • VIP All-Access Passes to the Sundar Prize Film Festival

How to Apply as a Filmmaker

  1. Submit your film through FilmFreeway. Affordable entry fees are set between $10 to $25 USD, with Gold Members receiving a 10% discount automatically.
  2. A consent form, signed by a legal guardian, will be required to participate (download below).
